All of Pura’s room scents are started from scratch. Every scent is unique, but in the fragrance world they can each be organized into eight groups called olfactive families, that are based on similarities a scent might share. These families range from citrus and floral to woods and musk. Pura analyzes the market to learn what smells people like, what ingredients we have to work with, and which parts of the olfactive fragrance families are missing from the line, and then we decide what we want to add. Mara says, “We want to make sure we are covering all the olfactive categories for our customers to give them a variety.” It’s so important that every person can get a smell that they like!

After choosing an air scent to create, we work with the perfumer, fragrance evaluator, sales manager, and technical manager to work on the product. Communication is key with these people, because some fragrances are more challenging than others, and we want them all to come out the way we (and you) want them to. The fragrance oils need to be formulated for the Pura device to be able to fill the space with the right amount of strength and intensity. They also have to go through different protocols and procedures for types of smells and unique brands, to make sure everything is formulated as it should be.

When developing the scents with our partners like NEST fragrances, Apotheke, and Capri Blue, we work with them to choose which fragrances would translate best for our devices, which are often the best sellers. Mara also helps to guide this process and bring out the best fragrances for the customers and the fragrance diffuser. We want to make sure their popular smells are translated to produce the best quality and luscious scent in each Pura device.

But what does this really mean and how can you be sure? For starters, Pura uses ingredients that are extracted from the source, like flowers, fruits, leaves, and wood. The only synthetics used are formulated specifically to protect the environment and expand our conviction to provide sustainable, eco-friendly, and safe fragrances. By working with partnerships like LMR Naturals, getting some of these ingredients is GOOD for the environment itself because they are sustainably derived at just the right time for them and the things around them, making it a win-win for everyone!
