A Guide to Feel Fresh and Stay Sane

The home has always been a sanctuary, and now this place of peace is needed more than ever. Just because we have brought work, school, dance lessons, and cooking classes into our houses does not mean that we have to sacrifice what the home means and does for us.

Here are five things you can do to keep your home fresh and happy when you’re needing that the most this month:

1. Get some air! Staying inside doesn't mean we can't feel the spring air or warm sun. Take at least a couple of minutes every day to open the windows and doors, letting some fresh air flow through your home. And don’t forget to breathe!

2. You might already be sick of this one, but we’ll say it louder for the people in the back. Wipe down your surfaces often! Keep wipes around and use them frequently on things you touch (or smell) multiple times during the day. If cleaning supplies are unavailable, mix 1 cup of rubbing alcohol with 1 cup of water into a spritzer bottle, add in 10 drops of you favorite essential oil, and get cleaning!

3. One of the first places to feel cluttered and odor-filled is the kitchen. Organizing and cleaning kitchen areas often is a big help for a fresh home. Take out the trash, especially after throwing food out. Place a couple drier sheets in the bottom of the can to get rid of extra odor. Once a week, remove old or overripe food from your fridge to keep heavy and unwanted smells from spreading, and prevent becoming noseblind to the stench.

4. Feeling trapped? Certain plants and flowers, such as eucalyptus and lavender, give off strong relaxing aromas. Planting flowers and feeling earth in your hands is surprisingly therapeutic, and might be a much needed stress-reliever during this time. Get a few small pots or vases, a bag of soil, and spread planted flowers around your home to welcome some of the outside world into your life!

5. Diffusing the air in your house is a sure way to help it stay fresh and smelling how you’d like it to.
