WiFi Requirements
Your Pura diffuser requires a 2.4GHz wireless network connection. If you purchased a diffuser but don't have a home network available, you can add a 2.4GHz network by working with your internet service provider or IT administrator.
Network Band Frequency
Pura diffusers use 2.4GHz wireless networks because the 2.4GHz frequency has a longer range and can extend more easily through walls and throughout larger homes, creating a better experience for our users. Your Pura diffuser does not support 5GHz WiFi networks and will only connect to 2.4GHz networks.
Most home WiFi routers broadcast either 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequencies, and more modern routers commonly feature both. When a router supports both, the two frequencies are often presented as two separate available networks. Keep in mind that even if your router features both frequencies, it's possible that one of them has been disabled.
If you're unsure which frequencies your router supports, you can review your router configuration or contact your router manufacturer for more details. If you received your router from your internet service provider (ISP), you may be able to contact them for router support and information.
Hidden Networks
If your home network is hidden, or otherwise does not broadcast its network SSID, it will not appear in the available networks list within the Pura mobile app. In this case, you can choose to manually enter your network name. Be sure to enter it exactly as it appears, including any capitalization, special characters, and spaces.
MAC Address Authentication
In situations where additional security features are used on your home network, you can use MAC address authentication. This lets you manually add your Pura diffuser's MAC address to your network configuration so the diffuser can bypass certain security features, including captive portals. Work with your internet service provider (ISP) or IT administrator for more information on how to do this.
Captive Portals
Captive portals are interfaces that typically include a web form you must complete in order to connect to a network. The web form might require a username and password, a security code or key, or 2-factor authentication.
Because the Pura diffuser is unable to display this type of interface, it cannot connect to networks that use a captive portal. A simple way to tell whether you're using a captive portal network is if the WiFi requires you to enter a username when signing in.
Additional Security Features
The Pura diffuser is unable to connect to networks that use additional security features. This includes networks that display captive portals, require additional authentication methods or user accounts, or that are shared between multiple customers, such as those in apartments or student dorms.
Issues With Power
To maintain a strong connection with the local network, the Pura diffuser requires a consistent source of power. Diffusers that share electrical power with other diffusers may have a hard time staying connected. When setting up your Pura diffuser, we recommend plugging it directly into a wall outlet rather than into a power strip shared with other diffusers.
Router Reset
Rebooting your router can help resolve WiFi connection issues. Restarting the router clears its cache and provides a new channel for the diffuser to connect to.
