Spruce in Mist: The Poetic Beauty of the Tree of Life
Jun 17, 2025

The “Tree of Life” isn’t a myth or a fairytale, passed down for generations—it’s a living, breathing tree perched between land and sea in Olympic National Park, Washington. Also known as the “Tree Root Cave,” the tree is suspended over a collapsed hollow, with two-thirds of its roots exposed to the elements. Yet it survives, a symbol of resilience in a world that often feels uncertain and ever-changing.
Spruce in Mist, a collaboration between Pura and the luxury fragrance brand Scents of Wood, was inspired by the force and fantasy exhibited by the Tree of Life. Some believe there can only be one Tree of Life in the world at a time and that when one falls, another rises. But with this exclusive fragrance, you can bring its awe-inspiring strength and poetic mysticism to your home every day.

The scent, created with the innovative NaturePrint™ technology, taps the essence of the Tree of Life and the world around it: the fusion of fresh water and ocean spray, the spicy warmth of tree resin, and the earthiness of wet clay.
NaturePrint™ makes it possible to preserve and translate the scent of these ancient trees without disturbing their natural state. To capture a scent, the perfumer places a glass globe over the area of interest, then inserts a thin needle into the globe; the needle holds a special fiber that absorbs the surrounding scent molecules over the course of an hour. Once the full aroma has been collected from the source, it’s stored in a refrigerated box to preserve the scent and taken to a lab to be analyzed. There, it is broken down into molecular data, allowing a perfumer to more accurately recreate the complete, immersive scent experience.

Spruce in Mist is a bold, energizing blend that opens with aquatic and green notes, including bergamot, mint, grapefruit, and tarragon—the scent of new growth and eternal beginnings. At its heart, you’ll discover notes of cedarwood, grounding clary sage, and herbal lavandin, perfect for a moment of respite. Balsamic amyris and vetiver represent those sprawling open roots, with a grounding depth of tonka that lingers like the mythical spirit of the forest—and the Tree of Life itself.
